This year's event is being held from 17th - 26th May. They usually include some anime in the programme, and this year it's the shiny new Patlabor 3 movie, that only recently premiered in Japan. See http://www.onedotzero.com for details. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game On at the Barbican ======================= No, it's not really anime, but I'm going to tell you about it anyway. Here is some official blurb: "Game On is the first major UK exhibition to explore the vibrant history and culture of video games from 1962-2002. This highly interactive exhibition examines the game design process from conceptual drawing through to the finished game and identifies the key creative people who make them. It will explain the developments in hardware technology from the colossal computers of the early 1960s to the recent consoles like X-Box, Game Cube and PlayStation 2, illustrating how content and technologies need each other to move forward successfully. The influence games have had on culture in Europe, North America and Japan will be explored, and a series of eight new commissions by contemporary artists, architects and designers responding to games, complements the show." Game On is being held at the Barbican Centre in London from 16th May to 15th September, after which it will move to Edinburgh, then other locations in Europe, America and Japan. More details can be found on the exhibition website at http://www.gameonweb.co.uk ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Akira in Bristol ================ A special showing of the digitally remastered Akira is being held at The Watershed Cinema in Bristol on 25th May. Preceding the film will be a discussion of the film by Jonathan Clements and Helen McCarthy. Details are on the Watershed website at http://www.watershed.co.uk/exhibition/cinema/films/akira.html =========================================================================== Current UK anime release schedule ================================= All of the following dates are subject to change.
