Two not-anime films out now
===========================

Yesterday saw the DVD and VHS release of two films that while not anime,
may be of interest to fans:

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was the first computer generated film to
feature realistic human characters. The film was a Japanese/American co-
production written and directed by H.. S.. The DVD version
out today has a ridiculously long list of features, including a trailer
for Metropolis.

Battle Royale is a popular Japanese live-action film that stirred up controversy
for its violence and ... The tenuous anime connection here, is that some of the
young actors in the film also have anime voice acting credits.

'Manga Happening' at the London Institute
=========================================

To accompany the 'Short Comics from Modern Japan' exhibition currently on
at the London Institute Gallery, a 'Manga Comics Happening' is being
organised on Saturday 2nd Febuary from 11am to 4pm. The event will include
workshops, displays and demonstrations by artists, a range of manga and
merchandise for sale, and the only chance to see the exhibition on a
Saturday (the gallery is normally closed at weekends). Admission to the
event will be £1 for adults, accompanied children free.

The London Institute Gallery is at 65 Davies Street, London W1 (nearest
tube: Bond Street).
